Garden School’s 4th through 12th grades participated in a debate over climate change. Six upper school students presented arguments for and against human-generated climate change. They all extensively researched the subject and spoke eloquently about the issue. In addition, questions were fielded from the audience. Many of the insightful questions were asked by our younger students, including our 4th graders. This formally organized debate truly represents the spirit of our school. Garden School’s Amateur Radio Club received timely help from WABC Eyewitness News, NY1, PIX11 News, and Huffington Post in spreading the word about the Clubs ability to put loved ones in touch with people in Puerto Rico left without power and communications by the hurricanes. The message is relayed through multiple stations until it reaches the desired person. They can relay a message through different relief organizations
At the World Maker Faire held at the New York Hall of Science, in a Middle Ages style setting complete with a fire-breathing dragon, the Garden School Amateur Radio Club won the Editor’s Choice Award blue ribbon for innovation, creativity and ingenuity. It is one of the highest honors at the faire. Just one year old, K2GSG is the only school based radio club in NYC. Through the leadership of advisor John Hale and the mentoring of the Hall of Science Amateur Radio Club and the American Radio Relay League, the club is quickly distinguishing itself on a national level.
